What Is CIPS?
The Certified International Property Specialist Network (CIPS Network) is the specialty membership group for international practitioners of the National Association of REALTORS®. Read more about how the CIPS designation prepares REALTORS® to service the growing international market in their local communities by focusing on culture, exchange rates, investment trends, and legal issues.
The CIPS Network is comprised of real estate professionals in 50+ countries who deal in all types of real estate, but with one common element: they are focused specifically on the international market, most often in their local area. Whether assisting foreign investors, helping local buyers invest abroad, or serving a growing immigrant population in local markets, CIPS members are consumers' best providers of professional skills in the unique aspect of international real estate.

Who are Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) designees?
CIPS designees are international practitioners who have distinguished themselves as individuals who have both hands-on experience in international real estate transactions, and have successfully completed the CIPS Institute. The Institute is an intensive 5-day program of study administered by NAR (National Association of REALTORS®) International, encompassing the critical aspects of transnational transactions. Topics include currency and exchange rate issues, cross-cultural relationships, regional market conditions, investment performance, tax and legal issues, and more. The CIPS education is valuable to a wide variety of professionals including U.S practitioners, non-U.S. practitioners and Association Executives. Over 2,000 international practitioners enjoy CIPS Network membership privileges, including exclusive international marketing and research services, as well as networking events.
What are the requirements for the CIPS designation?
Global Real Estate: Local Markets course
Global Real Estate: Transaction Tools course
Three regional courses (fourth is optional) *
100 points of elective credits with documentation, including up to 75 points (25 each) for international transactions
* NAR's At Home with Diversity® Certification counts toward one regional course requirement.
About the Instructors:
David Wyant
CIPS, ABR, AHWD, ePRO, GRI, TRC, NAR 2009 International Instructor of the Year
David has represented multiple international corporations on every continent. He has bought and sold property, lived, and operated his own company, internationally. David began working with real estate professionals in the early 1990s, extending technology to individuals and corporations in Florida. He has taught and lectured across the world on topics ranging from marketing and strategy development, to international finance and business planning. David is a graduate of the University of Virginia, the Amos Tuck Senior Executive Program at Dartmouth, IBM's Senior International Financial Executive School in Brussels, and the Instructor Training Institute.

Global Real Estate: Local Markets – Tuesday, July 6, 2010
This course is designed for anyone who may encounter opportunities in their local market to assist in an international transaction, e.g., assisting an immigrant or foreign investor, or helping a U.S. resident purchase property abroad. It is a prerequisite for all other CIPS courses.
Global Real Estate: Financial Concepts – Wednesday, July 7, 2010
Provides the tools needed to present investment information to international clients, in their currency and area. You will learn how to measure investment performance, prepare financial projections, and understand the effects of taxes and exchange rates on investment. This course should be taken prior to all regional courses, and is waived for students who have passed CCIM Intro, CCIM 101, or CRS 204. An HP-10BII calculator is REQUIRED for this course.

Transnational Referral Certification (TRC) – Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
This course prepares real estate professionals to make and receive compensated referrals, using a globally-accepted referral contract. Students will learn how to integrate international referrals into their business plans, resulting in increased income. Upon successful completion, students in ICREA-member countries qualify for Transnational Referral Certification (TRC) and become part of a searchable database of certified professionals on WorldProperties.com. While TRC is not a required component for CIPS designation, it is highly recommended as a networking tool in the international arena. Lunch is included.
Writing Your International Resume - Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Special FREE workshop for ALL CIPS students, past and present. David Wyant helps CIPS students navigate the designation application process, write or improve their bio for the CIPS "Who's Who in International Real Estate" directory, and calculate elective credits accumulated from prior international experience.
