The National Association of REALTORS® and the benefits of being a member

The National Association of REALTORS®, or NAR, is the largest professional real estate organization in North America. The members of NAR are called REALTORS®, and they conduct activities in the selling and purchase of real estate properties either as sales people, brokers, property managers, counselors and others. While many people confuse REALTORS® with regular real estate agents, the former have a much higher reputation and ability to protect the best interests of people who are looking to buy or sell real estate properties.

What is NAR?

NAR has also been called “The Voice for Real Estate,” and it is the largest organization in the real estate industry. With over one million members, NAR has countless institutes, councils and societies which are involved in every activity related to residential and commercial real estate. The members of NAR, the REALTORS®, belong to over 1,400 local boards and associations that are present in over 54 states.

NAR provides the perfect environment for professional development, research and information exchange. This isn’t restricted to just members, but is also open to the government and the public. They also champion the free enterprise system and the right of each and every individual or business entity to own a real estate property.

What is a REALTOR®?

A REALTOR® is a real estate agent, broker or any other real estate professional who is a member of NAR. The word “REALTOR®” is a registered trademark that identifies a real estate professional as being a member of the most prestigious real estate association on the northern continent. A REALTOR® is also a professional who abides to the Code of Ethics, a standards and conduct code that ensures that the real estate professional will use all his knowledge and experience in order to best represent the interests of his client.

Becoming a REALTOR®

In order to become a REALTOR®, one must first find the local REALTOR® board or association. Being member of a local REALTOR® association will extend the membership to both the state and national Association of REALTORS®, where one will be able to reap countless benefits.
